shaykh al-islam muhammad ibn ʿabd al-wahhab رحمه الله

Shaykh al-Islam Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhab رحمه الله was the Imām of Tawḥīd and revival in his era, a scholar from the people of Najd, known for his noble lineage and firm attachment to the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf. Allah blessed him with a clear, uncompromising call to the worship of Allah alone—reviving the meaning of Lā ilāha illa Allah in hearts, homes, masājid, and lands—at a time when shirk, innovations, ignorance, and tribally-driven desires had spread through many regions of the Arabian Peninsula. Through his teaching, refutations, and powerful writings, he restored clarity to the fundamentals of Islām, and Allah caused his daʿwah to revive the Peninsula by His permission, bringing people back to pure worship, adherence, and submission to revelation.

He authored numerous beneficial works that became pillars in the study of ʿaqīdah and manhaj—written with direct evidences, strong structure, and clear intent—spreading Tawḥīd, dismantling false practices, and cultivating believers upon sincerity and Sunnah. When he joined forces with Imam Muhammad ibn Saʿud رحمه الله, this alliance became a major turning point in the region: the daʿwah was supported, the truth was established with authority, and the foundations of the First Saudi State were laid—through which Tawḥīd was elevated, the Sunnah was honored, and the land witnessed a powerful rectification in belief, worship, and public life.

His legacy continued through his students and his sons—scholars in their own right—who preserved, explained, and spread his books and teachings, ensuring that the call remained rooted in knowledge and evidence. By the permission of Allah, his daʿwah became a source of strength and guidance across generations, combining sound scholarship with courageous rectification, commanding the good and forbidding the evil, and striving to remove the traces of shirk and bidʿah so that the religion would be practiced with purity, clarity, and firmness upon the way of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamaʿah.
